The story tells about an
old man named Jim Bailey, a wood carver. He owns a small shop where he
worked all day long. However, even if he has a propitious character, many
people find his ideology queer: for he is claiming that, he never worked all his life and he would never try to do so. People
considered this laughable because they can see that he does work almost every time. He caught the attention of almost everyone until a group of
children started watching him during the time he spends on making the carvings. Because of that, those children found out what the old man meant by his statement that he never worked: it is because he enjoys what he is doing. Thus, he never really considered it as a job but something that makes him happy.
The story shows us a valuable lesson. If we just look at the enjoyable side of the
tasks we need to do, we will not find it hard to complete the said tasks. Time would seem to be fleeting and then it would seem that we are not working at all.
