Musical way of realisation
Once a singer asked Bhagawan Sri Ramana Maharshi whether it would be possible to attain liberation by rendering devotional
songs and Nama Sangeerthanam. There were many like saint Thyagaraja who attained fulfilment by means of devotional music, the singer added. Bhagawan replied that great saints like Thyagaraja have not attained realization merely by singing. They only expressed through music what they already experienced and realized by means of devotion and contemplation. Similarly, the great saints like Arunagirinathar, Annamacharya, Purandara Dasa etc. have conveyed through their compositions the grace they experienced and the realizsation they attained. A devotee who seeks the path of Nama Sangeerthanam should therefore render the song with full consciousness of its meaning and adopt the spiritual practices concisely presented to him in the form of a song.
