In order to rehabilitate the eroded sandy beach, it is necessary to conduct the beach fill or artificial sand nourishment. However, if only beach fill is carried out, the filled sand will flow out significantly due to the wave and current actions. Based on the result of design study, in order to minimize the sand outflow, the construction of groins as sand retaining structures is required. The Shore Protection Work for Kuta Beach will include the beach fill, construction of three units of offshore breakwaters, renovation of the existing sea wall (revetment), landscaping, and construction of walkway and public facilities to enhance the beach amenity. Furthermore, restoration of reef flat will be carried out by filling in the dugout surface with limestone that will be regularly placed so as to function as submerged breakwater. Using the limestone of submerged breakwater as the base substrate, coral transplantation will also be carried out in this project.
