When we see Iranian women, often quite young
being sentenced to death by Islamic courts for ''adultery'', particularly
by
stoning, we often conclude that Islam itself is a barbaric religion: this
encourages ostracism against Muslims. But it''s nothing of the sort. Stoning is
nowhere mentioned in the Quran. Regarding the adultery evidence, it is nearly
impossible to establish as it requires four eye-witnesses of the act itself,
which must not be found beneath the hoofs of a horse! By origin, the Quran was
a rather civilising text, with the objective of smoothing the terrible
practices of Bedouin tribes: thus, it makes unlawful the killing of young
female children who were often buried alive before the Hejira, it also makes
the inheritance of girls compulsory on fathers (certainly with only half of
boys’ shares, but it was better than nothing), it
recommends believers to not
to take more than four wives (which was an improvement) and still on the
condition of being able to treat them fairly and to care for all of them, as
well as to
provide repudiated women with a “dower” so that they do not become
needy. It also compels men not to oppose divorce if it is desired by a woman
(and to provide the dower even in that case, etc.) In the context, it was a
relatively humanistic text! Even though it consists of war incitements such as
in the Bible. On the other hand, it also recommends forgiveness in the event
that the adulterer (both man & woman) repents as Allah is merciful. Thus?
The so called Islamic courts condemning female kids for… nothing debase the religion
they pretend to defend and increase tensions and even hatred.
