Redemption, invention of St. Paul?

Article Summary by: varghese

Original Author: Prof.P.A.Varghese

This could be the most plausible explanation. When Christ was being led to the hill of Golgotha, with a heavy cross
on his shoulders bleeding profusely, the onlookers must have thought what wrong did this good man do. Jesus loved everyone and he was of an immaculate character. It was quite possible that they were thinking he was suffering for their sins. …
Their thinking would have been echoed by anyone whom they shared their feeling with. Soon, it became a thinking of the then population. So many would have felt he suffered and died for them.
Well, St. Paul was a genius. Earlier he had attacked the Christians and made them suffer. But after his conversion, he had ‘apparitions of Christ’ and he was deeply moved by his suffering for no fault of his. Further St. Paul was thorough with the scriptures and he knew everything about the original sin and how man has been suffering ever since.  In a flash of brilliance, he just theorized that Christ died for the entire human race.. He simply extended the simple feeling of the common folk who witnessed Christ’s suffering and death  to apply to the entire human race.
He slowly worked out the redemptory theory. He made God plan from all beginning and he chose a tribe to prepare the coming of the redeemer and so on. St. Paul made the redemptory theory as we know it today.
