The
god of Moses demanded
animal sacrifices. Moses gave them
laws as to how to perform sacrifices, the kind of animals to be offered at appropriate situations and how the blood was to be sprinkled around the altar and so on. Moses anointed priests for the administration of rites and ceremonies.
Holocaust of burnt offerings were very pleasing to their deity.
A handful of flour and oil were to put on the animal for a ‘sweet savor to the Lord.’ He prescribed a wide range of
sacrifices for the various types of sins.
Many things were regarded taboos. The lepers were declared unclean and were ordered to go out of the society as they were defiled!.
We find the laws governing all these in the book of Leviticus.
The ten commandments were formulated by the leaders of the times foe the peaceful co-existence of man and were given to the people with the authority of the Gods.
