Christmas, a Pagan Festival

Article Summary by: varghese

Original Author: Prof.P.A.Varghese

Nobody knows the exact date of Jesus Christ’s birth.  It is unknown historically. It must have been in an altogether

a different period and date than what is being believed by the Christians.

There are historians of religions who doubt  whether  Jesus lived at all. But the probability is that Christ was born, and probably he got himself acquainted with the Jewish scriptures and later preached love and compassion. He also criticized the Scribes, Pharisees and the High Priests for their blatant hypocrisy. They later pressurized Pontius Pilate to crucify him.

There is no historical record to show the exact date of his birth or death. Everything is shrouded in ‘mystery.’

Christmas  was an adoption of the Roman festival, ‘Saturnalia’ held on the December 25th. It was taken over by the early Christians and it became later Christmas.

We have already seen that Easter was a pagan festival adopted by the early Christians Much of Christianity, including the basic doctrines were adopted form the then existing religions.
