Socialism is an idea, some call generous, that has a goal deemed, even to the first to think about it, to be unreachable. Thomas More called it Utopia, a place that one can find nowhere. The disparities seen in social conditions are immoral, there’s no doubt about it, a few moguls living amid a multitude of pariahs was the standard in all countries when the first socialist ideas came to light.

Nonetheless, to make worldly things fit in human ideas is a difficult task and sometimes brings new problems without solving the old ones. Socialist point of view assumes that humans are good by nature and society is the milieu where the good human nature is depraved. So, we must reform social structures in order to take advantage of the good will humans bring from the cradle and the first measure to be taken is to avoid competition.

By stimulating equality we may achieve the fraternity society needs to be a peaceful and happy place to live in. The ones with greater talent and strength have to work for themselves and to provide a surplus to complement the less fit. And, as human nature is taken for granted we may face no problems in assuming this frame.

But to dismiss competition as a fundamental drive to every kind of environment is a fatal flaw to any possibly successful society. From the lowest level of living creatures, like virus and bacteria, to the biggest animal and plant as whales and sequoias, competition is a fact known and has to be dealt with, in a minute by minute task.

So, to introduce a non-competitive scheme involving living creatures is to start with a problem that is going to distort natural relations. Organisms have been selected to compete and to help each other in some special occasions, but to help in order to be helped in return.

In forcing people to be altruistic at any cost, the result is to introduce an stimulus to lower efficiency. The standard response to make income unrelated to effort is the search for doing the least to add value to a work one has to do. Few men and women has the genuine disposition to make their best to benefit others, instead of themselves and their families.

All the attempts to realize the promises of Socialism have resulted in a gradual descent to a dull society, without enthusiasm and infected by widespread corruption. So, where the capitalist society has rich people in the socialist country we find the powerful bureaucrats living in the same luxury that deeply contrasts with the life of the common citizen. Hence, one have the worst of the alternatives, no progress and still inequalities everywhere.

Above all, socialist societies need to be non-democratic in order to impose its unnatural mindset that forbids the drive to improve personal wealth. Mainly in the transition from capitalism, revolutions are necessary to deprive the richs from their wealth in order to put the history to move, as socialism likes to express its ideology.

Cuba, as one of the last trenches of socialism, is now making some adjustments in the endless list of prohibitions cuban citizens have to live with in everyday life. For many of us is surprising to see what point of restraints cubans have to face, in the name of socialism. No cellphones, no DVDs, no permit to enter the best hotels and even the veto to step on beaches of his own country, reserved to tourists. This last restriction is so odious that only a people brainwashed by years of indoctrination is expected to left some places of their own country to be stepped only by foreigners.

And Cuba is not an exception, for those kind of restrictions to human rights were a fact of everyday life to russians, chinese, and people of several Eastern Europe countries. The messianic drive of those socialist experiments were enough to justify the idea that means may be dread when ends are heavenly. Some still not convinced of socialist failure argue that what happened in those countries were not socialism but something else and, so, new tries to reach the real socialism are to be attempt.

It’s amazing how that argument values human life so low to the point of being risked in mass experiments that already proved gruesome. Perhaps, what really moves socialists minds are not the compassion for the poor but the hatred toward the rich. The true compassion avoids above all to inflict pain to an entire generation in order to offer a possible paradise to the next.

In short, competition is behind the ones trying to impose socialist revolution and by putting capitalists appart is get power quicker. Being a bureaucrat in charge of a state company, one have the best of all, power and money without the risk a true capitalist have in market. Hence, what was observed in communist countries is a kind of mafia in charge of entire countries. Ruthless and immoral like any other gang, they did what should be done to seize and maintain the power.

Like we now observe in Cuba, some of those dictatorships have receded to a monarchy when creating a dynasty to retain the power in a tight range.

So, when it comes to natural patterns, the attempt to avoid it may bring more damage than to deal with its sheer reality.
