World history give us a big question mark as to what role religions have played in the great wars that have devastated mankind and caused untold suffering. The crusades, the inquisition, and the conflicts in the Middle East and Northern Ireland, the slaughter between Iran and Iraq the Hindu Sikh clashes in India –all these make thinking people raise questions about religious beliefs and ethics. In the innumerable wars of Europe, Catholics have killed protestants and Protestants have killed Catholics. Difference in the religious beliefs have been a cause for the two world wars.
There has always been wars and communal to uphold the god of each faction ever since the history of mankind. Millions and millions have perished in every century. Now terror is being waged in the name of a particular God killing innocents men, women and children.
Even in the religious texts of Christendom and Islam we find the respective deities exhorting the faithful to murder those who oppose them. Well, if gods themselves are for killing then why not the faithful?
