First came the need to leave the mother country, cross oceans and find, on the other side of the planet, all kinds
of difficulty of resumption in a new land. They needed "to make America" to return to Japan but things have not happened exactly as the pioneers planned.
After some time, the Japanese immigrants knew it was time to change the course of history, it was necessary to establish roots in Brazil.
This year, this epic made of tears, sweat and dreams, not always achieved, complete a century.
The reasons that influenced that adventure and it was this movement for about 1.5 million nikkeis (descendants of Japanese born outside of Japan) in Brazil are in this summary.
Looking to the Past
By observing the prosperous Japan of today, it is difficult to imagine that a hundred years ago many of their children have left everything to risk themselves in such distant lands. To better understand this, we must back the years preceding the March start of Japanese immigration in Brazil - characterized by the arrival of the ship Kasato Maru Santos / SP, on June 18, 1908, after 52 days if they leave the port of Kobe (429 km to the west of the capital, Tókio). The boat brought the first 781 immigrants within the immigration agreement between the two nations, and over 12 passengers independent. The story of immigrants back to the period of modernization of the country in 1868.
