The Ugly Indian Tourist Centers.
There is a famous saying that a tourist place should be like a swimming pool. One should
see the impeccably maintained tourist attraction of the developed countries to understand the true meaning.
There are tourist centers in every nook and corner of India. The picture anywhere is more or less the same: dirty, unkempt, crowded and nauseating. At the turn of our Independence many of these places were much tidier and neat. The rate at which we as a nation is trashing the beautiful places is alarming. Worse still, we find new places to shabby it out. Take Ooty or Shimla or Goa. Once beautiful and tidy, today they are dirty and noisy –things one wants to run away from. Is it not a shame?
We have not put efforts to keep them presentable and impeccable. These are the mirrors which reflect to the world our culture and civilization. They are not places for commercial
exploitation only. The local
communities could be made stake holders in their upkeep and revenue. Their exclusion has spurred unbridled growth and the locals are least bothered about their preservation for the future.
Without the corrective steps to check the human influx we may lose the sacred treasures of nature like the Gomukh and Ganotri and many more.
