Gendered Morality

Article Summary by: varghese

Gendered morality?
The other day we could see men in saffron pulling women’s hair and pushing them to the ground and
openly molesting them. The attack on women in the pub was not the first of its kind.
We fail to understand the thinking behind it. How are certain freedoms of women come to destroy our traditions and cultural values?   Are women alone responsible for upholding of our traditions? Do men and their behavior nothing to do with the degradation of culture? And what exactly is the Indian culture these saffron clad men are trying to protect?
Is it the Indian culture to beat up women for silly reasons? Is it the Indian culture to torture and kill women if they fail to produce more and more dowry? Is it culture to torture women for not producing a boy when all the scientific facts point the onus of the same on the men? Is it Indian culture to gang rape poor women if they dare to challenge child marriage? Is it Indian culture to make males all superior and women slaves confined to the four walls of the house attending to conceiving and satisfying men folk? Is it Indian culture to sit back with apathy when thousands of poor women die during childbirth due to malnutrition and the absence of medical help? Is it the Indian tradition to make women produce eight to ten children and leave them to chance to survive?
What is this social outrage all about? Is it all about boys and girls mingling or serving alcohol in a licensed shop? These are all part of a free society. The saffron men represent a primitive mind set.
Most friends of these mad people are sex starved. There is not a single place here where girls and women are free to walk alone in full sunlight. Leave alone night. They all are ready to pounce upon her like savage wolves which have never ever satiated themselves with sex. Oh what an irony?
