Next to mermaid The Palace of Culture and Science is one of the most famous symbols of Warsaw. It is known to be extremely
controversial - there are, on the one hand, those who hate it and try to convince Polish authorities to demolish it and, on the other hand, those who
appreciate it's historical values and do everything to save it. Anyhow the building is popular with tourists and is one of the most famous places in town.
The Palace of Culture and Science was designed by Russian architect Lew Rudniew, who was inspired by skyscrapers of Soviet Union and Chicago. The construction started in 1952 and lasted three years. The tower was a gift from Soviet Union to Polish people and at the beginning was known as Joseph Stalin Palace of Culture and Science. It is 237 metres high, what makes it the highest building in the capitol and the eighth tallest in the European Union. It is emblazoned with sculptures and ornaments in socialism realistic style, which can be really interesting for foreign tourists.
Inside there is a lot of cultural attractions - museums, theatres, exhibitions, cinema. From time to time performances of the most famuous artists take place. Moreover you can find there a lot of places to entertain - restaurants, cafes and you are also able to visit the terrace 114 meters high and admire the panoramic view.
Whatever you think about the architecture of The Palace of Culture and Science, no matter if you appreciate it of not, while visiting warsaw the tower is a real must and you shoud not omit it. Everyone can choose something that interest them and see a part of Polish history.
