The other day there was a story in a Mumbai Tabloid involving an irate wife who accused her husband of being homosexual.
She had enough evidence to prove his affair with a naval officer. She wanted the court to intervene and instruct her husband to mend his ways and start his ‘
husbandly’ work again. She being from a high society circle it attracted a great deal attention and men with similar inclinations became exceedingly nervous.
But the man did not budge nor hid his relationship. Instead, he paraded his friend and confessed to his ‘crime’. The court threw out the case.
Why didn’t she go for a divorce or opt to part ways with the blessings of everyone concerned? He would have happily consented. May be she wanted him to mend his ways and climb into the martial bed and discharge his husbandly duty!
It seems she did not understand homosexuality; otherwise, she would have figured out that she would be wasting her time.
Many a time
homosexuals are trapped into conventional marriages by family pressure. They know they would be condemned into a life of falsehood and fear.
Gays are gays for life. It is a genetic twist and to change them into ‘normal’ human beings is almost impossible.
Let the society accept those who are gay as they are and even allow them to marry as in the western countries. Appropriate laws have to be enacted in the parliament and it is imperative to create enough awareness in the society to think that being gay is not a crime.
