Desiderius Erasmus was born in Rotherdam, probably in the year 1469, and died in Basel, in the year 1536.
He was a friend
of
Thomas More (check the biography by the same author), the known author of Utopia (check the sinopse by the same author), Erasmus was one of the biggest wisemen of the Renaissance and Reform times. He had a critician, cosmopolite and ecumenis sprit. He fought for liberty of conscience and expression, in the church and civil sphere. He was imortalized with the book "In Praise of Folly" (check the sinopse by the same author), a masterpiece in wich the author, named by some as "the 16th century''s Voltaire", dominates all the resources of irony but in wich, bringing a smile to our lips, puts into evidence the moral protest against human hipocrisy and stupidity, against the farses that all of us, consciently or not, protagonize.
