Selection of ideal teacher
A good citizen is not born but made over a period of time. A child is like a softened mud in the hands of a potter. Mother nurses her child and takes up the role of teacher before giving opportunity to anybody else. Child under the guidance of teacher inculcates the skills and takes or assumes the shape as designed by the scholar. Child learns about the various topics from the teacher. Every child is unique in its approach and actions no two child’s should be compared by their performance by any parents or the teachers. I wish to invoke a thought among the people for the importance of selection of an ideal teacher for their ward. This narration is from the great epic “MAHABHARATHA” an hindu mythology. It is an incident where the children ( Pandava’s and Kaurava’s ) playing a ball game in the garden. There was a well on one end of the garden. Ball thrown by one fell into the well. All the children rushed to find that ball was floating in the well. Now the question to retrieve the ball. Everyone wondered how they could get back the ball. Beeshma the grand father of children was observing the incident from the palace overlooking the garden.
Drona the sage turned teacher happen to pass by the garden. He wondered why the boys had gathered near the well. He approached the boys and found their problem. He soon took out a bow and arrows he started shooting arrows one after another on to the ball. The first arrow struck the ball then followed a series of arrows one behind the other getting struck the previous arrow thus a chain of arrow was formed. The teacher finally held the back end of the arrow which was at the brim of the well. Slowly he started pulling the arrows one by one. Finally he was able to pull out the ball out of the well. Beeshma saw the whole incident and invited the sage to palace and found that he was the most suitable teacher for his grand children. He requested drona to teach the prince’s. thus the selection of right teacher to teach the young princes lead to invoke the dedicated learning of war techniques began for the princely children.
