Is Conversion to Christianity a Gateway for heaven?
A statement by a religious supreme authority that ban
on
Conversion should be lifted in India has raised
anxiety
to understand the interior and ulterior motives and
tactics being used by various religious masters and
contractors of Isms. What motive it will serve if
conversion
is banned or ban is lifted ? This is a valid question.
Was there some unfair practice of gratification to
convert
people to Christianity? That State had to intervene by
imposing ban on conversion.
Had the missionaries been given target to convert which
has
been thwarted?
Where is the need for any religion to enforce
conversion or
baptize masses?
Are they insecure? Or Have fundamentals of religious
faith
need reaffirmation of numbers?
In pursuit to globalize spirituality, are their some
fresh
challenges which need to be addressed by conversion to
Isms.If basics of any religion are same, God is one-
then
where the need for numbers is?
Communities world over are becoming wise and learned
and
have understood well the limitation of religious
fundamentalism. They have understood the meaning of
derivatives of principles, rules, regulations preached
by
one or the other religious bodies. Ultimately
importance of
humanity than any religion is well understood and is
being
practiced.
The message is very loud and clear that space for
dogmatic
religious fanatics is getting reduced in comparison to
Spiritual healers, may they be following or believing
any
religion.
The time has changed. Might is Right, may be a valid
principle for controlling geographic boundaries or
expanding reserves of Oil or any other wealth.
But Means of creating wealth and well being are
dominating
individuals now. Religious commitment is slowly taking
back
seat. Yes, wheresoever, question of identity arises -
religion ,caste, creed, profession or race and
advantage of
being together for security reasons,survival,or
perpetuating entities becomes a common cause. And as
soon
as fundamentalism comes into play, people tend to back
out
or follow blindly.
When economies are opening up, barriers being removed,
cultures getting honored and exchanged- any ban will
not
work. However, the situation is not all that equal .
Unfair practices to achieve conversion need to be
checked.
Poor and illiterate masses need food, water and
shelter,
but enabling them, should not cost their faith.
Unfortunately Local Governments or communities have
not
played very positive role in raising their standard of
life.
If social work helps, missionaries or social workers
should
help them to identify themselves, help them reorient
themselves to their own culture and faith. And not
persuade
them to convert to Christianity.
