The Fear Factor

Book Summary by: DM Themba

Original Author: DM Themba
Fear is a feeling of anxiety caused by the presence or anticipation of danger. Fear is a negative thought in our mind. Fear
has killed millions. Some are afraid of cats, darkness, water, heights, snakes, horror etc. What is your greatest fear? The thing you fear has a measure of you and may at times prevent you from being fulfilled in life. Many people lost opportunities because of fear.
Fear is person’s greatest enemy. It is behind failure, sickness, and bad human relations. Fear is a painful emotion or passion excited by an expectation of evil, or the apprehension of impending danger. Fear is accompanied with a desire to avoid or ward off the expected evil. Fear is an uneasiness of mind, upon the thought of future evil likely to befall us.
Stress is a form of fear. Worry is a form of fear. Worldly ambition is rooted in a fear of being overlooked--of being a failure. Many relationships are based on the fear of being alone. Vanity is based on a fear of being unattractive and unloved. Greed is based on a fear of poverty. Even anger and rage are based on the fear that there is no justice, no escape, and no hope.
Fear is a destructive force in many lives. Fear breed’s selfishness, which is the exact opposite of God's character. Selfishness breeds pride and indifference to others. All of these are sin and must be dealt with accordingly. Stress arises when we try to serve both ourselves (our fears), and God at the same time (which is impossible to do). "Unless the Lord builds the house, it's builders labour in vain...In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat." (Psalm 127:1-2).
We are afraid of God’s creation, which were created to help, nature, feed and bow to us. Why should you be afraid, when we are the children of the Creator who put us on top of everything on earth, and gave us all the power to defeat evil in our mists? You were wonderfully and fearfully made, you are a special being and your Father does not want you to be afraid for He said Psalm 23. …for thou I walk in the shadow of darkness I shall fear not.
Be alert, be on watch! Your enemy, the Devil, roams around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 1Pe 5:8. The devil uses the strategy of a roaring lion to install fear in us. When we fear it is where he want us to be. So don’t fear this fake lion; don’t fall into his trap. There is no fear in love; perfect love drives out all fear. So then, love has not been made perfect in anyone who is afraid, because fear has to do with punishment. (1Jo 4:18) Fear has no place in love. Bold confidence (1Jo_4:17), based on love, cannot coexist with fear. Love when perfected, gives bold confidence hence: casts out fear. The design of Christ's propitiatory death was to deliver from this bondage of fear. From 1Jo 4:18 we can see that fear has to do with punishment.
