WHERE WAS GOD DURING THE JEWISH
HOLOCAUST? Obviously, the holocaust poses serious questions as to the credibility of both
religion and humanism. The ultra orthodox Jewish theology justified the
holocaust as an act of God, a punishment for sin committed by the Jewish people against their God. The children where punished for the sins of their parents, a contradiction of the teachings of Judaism, and that millions of devoted Jews suffered from the transgressions of others are not explained. This approach, which is common among the extreme orthodox Jews, is rejected in some quarters, mostly among the scholars (Rabbi), the says that Gods intervention in history cannot be understood in human terms, they claim that it is not what or why God did not do anything to salvage the Jew, but weather the people followed the commandment of God. Some of them sees the withdrawal of God from the mist of the Jews and allowed the holocaust to happen because the Jews betrayed God and did not keep his commandment, others see it a contradiction of the problem of free will of man. The credibility of Christianity has been
questioned by a lot of people on the role of God and the church on the various evil actions taken against Jews, they questioned the role of the church in the murder of the Messiah’s people in the mists of Christendom and how justified their actions is without God doing nothing? The martyrs of the church struggle against the Nazism and the righteous among the nations are but key player in the holocaust. The holocaust is responsible for the death of about 5.8 million Jewish people and forceful labour in labour camps some part of Europe. In this work, “where was God during the Jewish holocaust”, Ehis Agbola, stated that it was very obvious that both God and the Christian community did not do anything. In conclusion, he stated that a God that permits the murder of millions of innocent children, either by his presence or absence, is a Satan and cannot therefore exist, he claim that morality is man made and therefore should be defended by man.
