paintings with beautiful image. How Vasudeo Kamat acquired unique artistic skills? Where his first inspiration of creativity came? Who inspired him the most?
Distinguished painter Vasudeo Kamat was facilitated at a function held in his nonour at Nittai-Gauraj Art gallery, Thane on June 3. Kamat was presented with the World’s Best Portrat Artist award in May 2006 and the directors of the gallery, Shailesh Salvi and Sharmila Shreenath held the programme to appreciate this achievement.

Kamat was very lenient while expressing his thoughts. He became nostalgic when he narrated tales from his
childhood. He said, “ I was initiated to drawing from my childhood. Thought there were no professional family in my family, my mother’s uncle, late Gopal Shenoy, was recognized sculptor.
Kamat was presented with the prestigious award in the US for the portrait he had made of his wife Bharrti. “I clearly remember the evening when the prize distribution ceremony took place. Fortunately, I was in America at that time. In the first round, 1000 paintings were accepted from which 12 were selected for final award. The announcement started with the last number and I was becoming more and more nervous as I could not find my name in the list. When my name was declared as a winner, I recalled the encouragement and support of my family and all my supporters. Above all else, I fell I was representing my nation.”
