It may be right to say that illusion (Maya) takes birth before the birth of a child. That is why all children remain confused after coming to earth. But scientific approach to their state of mind is absolutely different. According to science, children remain totally confused for a long time that is required for their mental as well as physical growth. After a particular period they come to recognize their parents and other relatives and go on living the life keeping faith on them. The dignity of all things becomes higher only when the darker side of that thing becomes distinct. The common instance of water is enough to understand it. The value of water may be nil at the river bed. But its value is multiplied by many times at the places where it is scanty.
The illusion plays the role of darkness which paves the way towards light and thus enables man to reach at the right decision. But how far? The average human life is between 60 or 70 years only. Hardly a few lucky people see the light of the day.
I may be one of them. Once I had gone to visit the parent’s house of my maternal
grand mother at Pittal (Rajendrapur) few kilometers away from Berhampur, District-Ganjam, Orissa (India). The bizarre
incident took place there is beyond narration. I and my grand mother were staying in a room situated at the corner of the long verandah. We went to bed at around 12 hours at night. Just after two hours I felt pressure again and wanted to pass urine. Since the wood-log bolt of the door was beyond my reach due to my short height, I told grand mother to open it. She opened the bolt and accompanied me to the place of urine (Open space). While urine, I listened some sounds similar to a long breath just beside me. I took it minutely and thought perhaps snake has swallowed a frog and was taking long breaths to swallow it inside the mouth. All on a sudden, I felt somebody standing at my right hand side and is smiling. I again started urine and completed as soon as possible. I stood up and started running towards my grand mother. After reaching her, I looked back to know who was there. I saw something moving towards the back door. The sound of opening up of the iron chain (meant for keeping door closed) was quite clear and somebody went away before I could alert it to my grand mother. This was a highly shocking incident in my life. We came back to the room but I could not sleep. My body started severing and body temperature went up. Grand mother called other members of the family. Since it was too late at night and most of them were getting tired, a few responded to her. One of my maternal uncles went to the nearby temple where the brother of my grand mother was performing Pooja of Goddess Kali. He said that he would come in the morning only. He was very fond of me. But that day when he reached at home, I felt awkward in his presence. I managed to avoid him and started moving to opposite direction. He picked my hand and compelled to sit in front of him. I was getting extremely tired due to sleepless night and was not in a mood to talk to him. He gave me a glass of water to drink and touched my forehead while whispering something in my ear. I could not listened anything. After sometime I felt relaxed and went to bed for a complete day.
Being very practical I don’t believe in it. I thought it may be due to my ill-health or illusion. But when a similar incident happened to me at Berhampur, I was very much astonished. The incident took place on the sixth day of my younger sister’s birth. I had sat with my mother near threshold of the room where a wooden ladder was kept connecting the roof of kitchen. It was twilight. I saw somebody had sat on the roof and is trying to come down through the ladder. Since I had experienced the similar incident before, without wasting time I alerted my mother who also saw a white leg shaped shadow is gradually stretching down towards us. I had gone to call my grand mother who was busy in conversation with neighbourer. I came quickly back to mother and saw the leg shaped shadow was going up and up and vanished. I rode the roof through ladder to see who was exactly there, but in vein.
After sometimes, the cries of mother-in-law of my mother’s best friend namely “Bashanti” had heard. She was lamenting for her beloved daughter-in-law’s death due to pox. My mother started reacting to it by thinking that Bashanti might have come. She started vomiting and became senseless for sometime.
