Many people will feel lost, unworthy, confused, hurt, ugly, and flat out depressed during their life. Maybe someone close
to them has suddenly passed away, or maybe it is just winter and the dark trees keep you inside. The cause may be
different, but the result is the same. Even a mild
depression is tough to deal with. By now there are many different drugs and medications that are supposed to help “cure” depression, but all the pharmaceutical chemists seem to of missed one important ingredient; love.
I’m no doctor, but I have battled different levels of depression though out my life. I’ve learned personally that overcoming depression was because of the few people that stood by me. Sometimes all it takes is a hug, a smile, just something to let them remember we are here and that we care about them. The use of the medication does help, but mixing in some love and support is what will make the difference.
I think it’s sad that there are people in the world that do not receive such support. Without love and support it is very easy to find depression. If we just simply showed our support for others, whether or not they needed it, many people would find it easier to push through life. Love and support are what condoms are to STD’s, in both cases all we have to do is learn and remember to use them; but we do have to use them.
Everyone deserves to be touched, be it the guy on the corner with a cardboard sign, your sibling, or your neighbor. All you have to do is notice them. Give them a smile and a wave; even just eye contact can be enough. For the people you know a hug is always welcome. Just give others a way to feel loved after all, it’s all we really want.
