HOW TO DOUSE THE MIDDLE EAST FIRE?
Retaliation, retribution, revenge, hatred will not solve the middle east problem.Again
Middle East is on the boil and taking toll of innocent lives on both the sides. The only lasting solution is
peaceful coexistence of both the Palestinians and Jews preferably taking inspiration from countries where people of different faiths are living and prospering together like in the United States. Unless both these
communities realize that by uniting they have much to gain and by division they have only to lose the problem will be on boil. They have to bury the past and vow to move together and prosper together. They should realize that deep distrust and hatred for each other would sap their energies and make them weak and vulnerable. There must be an immediate end to the hostilities and revenge killings on both the sides immediately. The Palestinians and the Jews suffered the worst so far and gained nothing. History has not been kind to both of them and it is time to make a new beginning. It is a sad mixture of religious, emotional, territorial and political issues that are dividing these two communities and created distrust and deep-rooted hostility. Both the communities already made enormous sacrifices of human lives. They must realize that they cannot eliminate each other. They can pool their strengths together to become a progressive and formidable society where equality of both the communities is recognized. They can help each other and live a prosperous and peaceful life. Both the communities need all inclusive solutions to their mutual distrust and concerns. Only political solutions will not succeed in the Middle East. Take for example the United States where people from all the countries made it their home and prosper together. There are Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and native Red Indians, people of white origin, people of black origin. All these races and religions made the Americans prosperous because they realized the importance of peaceful coexistence is the key to progress. Take another example India, the largest democracy of the world. Here too though there are some problems now and then, it is a society with many religions and progressing fast. The point I want to make is that there is more to gain by both the Palestinians and the Jews living together. Hatred for each other only hampers their progress. The world leaders tried to impose solutions from outside but largely unsuccessful. Any tension between Palestinians and Jews draws many nations into taking sides there by endangering world peace and security. It is unfortunate that the Muslim nations by and large consider the very existence of the Jewish state with contempt. Some of the Islamic nations even want to join the fray every time there is tension in the Middle East essentially between the Palestinians and the Jews. Western nations too join due to their fears over oil supplies. While Israel has real security concerns from the Palestinian extremists, they too must realize that the Palestinians too need a rightful place and cannot live as aliens in their original native land. It is high time that both the Jewish leaders and Palestinian leaders understand the concerns of each other and realize that by living together they can achieve peace and prosperity.The following initiatives are immediately needed: 1. Urgent meeting of religious leaders of Jews, Muslims, Christians and other major religions and appeal to both the Palestinians and Jews for calm and peace. 2. Urgent meeting of influential world leaders for appealing to both the Palestinians and Israelis to cease hostilities and engage in negotiations.3. Invitation from multi religious societies to the leaders of both Israel and Palestine to visit their countries and watch the peaceful co existence of people of different religions. 4. Creating right environment for talks to resolve the problem once for all. 5. Encouraging both the Jews and Palestinians to live under one roofand redrawing borders based on historical factors if necessary. 6. International guarantees for the arrangement of peaceful coexistence of both the communities.7. Encouraging direct talks between Palestinians and Jews.8. They must be encouraged to bury the past.All the nations must refrain from taking sides in the conflict in the interests of world peace and encourage both the communities to engage in fruitful talks to solve all the outstanding problems among themselves. All the nations must encourage dialogue process between these two communities.BOTH THE COMMUNITIES MUST REALISE THAT EYE FOR EYE POLICY NOT ONLY MAKE THEM BLIND BUT ALSO THE ENTIRE WORLD
