Religion and Education

Book Summary by: cks

Original Author: C.K.Sarma
“Religion & Education”
Perhaps nobody will have any dispute in accepting that the habit of speaking truth, not
loosing temper or not expressing roguish anger are good attributes and do no harm to anyone as telling of lies, misbehaviour and ill manners do. One falsely may assumed to be ultra modern by dressing up in the latest designer clothes or copying the so called socialites but will not be a complete man with a capital’M’ unless his mind is also equally pure, thinking is righteous, nature is simple and helpful duly powered by proper education.. Vulgar display of money does not make a man modern or a good member of a civilised society. It is more important that the mind is clear and thoughts are pure.
But the question is why do these objectionable and impure thoughts creep into the mind? A moment’s musing will provide the answer automatically.. Illiteracy, poverty and traditions poison the mind.
For example ‘fire ‘ is a very useful thing and has wonderful properties. But those who do not know about it may not only burn their own fingers but also put alight self, and others’ property and dwellings .
It is similar thing with the religion.. By simply reciting a particular name round the clock or visiting religious places, a person can not purify his soul, mind and heart. . He may be aware of the fundamentals of religion but suppose he is hungry for the last one week or so, he will not hesitate to satisfy his hunger first by any means. For him survival is foremost than anything else in the world..
It is the duty of every individual in the society to know the essence of religion and impart his knowledge to his neighbours, near ones, friends and relatives. But a little knowledge is always harmful. How many people really know or bother to know the properties of different kind of food they eat. In other words they are devoid of a good and important knowledge beneficial for them.. A glance through the properties of the composition of any medicine will give us an idea about our lack” of an important knowledge .
Now this or similar kind of knowledge is very important as it plays an invaluable role in our life
In the great books of Buddhism, Jainism, European philosophy and law attempt has been made to spread the meaning of ‘action’ and ‘reason’.
What is the meaning and use of acquiring higher education if blind faith cannot be eradicated from the society world over. Religious advancement is the basis of all other progress. Misconceptions, misunderstandings, and delusion prohibit the advancement in the knowledge of religion. Many a great thinkers, scientists, philosophers and learned people all over the world have striven to remove the aforesaid mental diseases. .But the irony is that even the few who understand these things do not help in propagating knowledge and eradicating falsehoods.
We must endeavour to shed the pseudo religious faiths and encourage true religious devotion. It is not dependent on anybody but on the self-help, self confidence , courage and resolution..
This is the only solution for all round progress of the world at large.
