Epidemiology is a multidisciplinary field, and you will be submerged in subjects like biology, chemistry, pathology, psychology,
and medicine. In Epidemiology as a preferred major, you will be delving into the study of the health and illness of the general population, and individuals, which lays the basis for public health and preventive medicine. You will be researching into major issues affecting health like biological, environmental, social, and behavioral which lead to illness and premature death, as well as factors contributing to the general health and well-being.
Epidemiologists work closely with other public health practitioners, health care professionals, environmental health personnel, behavioral scientists, microbiologists, demographers, biostatisticians, and administrators of health agencies. The course offers specializations in chronic disease epidemiology, women’s health epidemiology, infectious disease epidemiology, psychiatric epidemiology, and alcohol epidemiology. You’ll gain a basic understanding of some or all of these areas in your
undergraduate studies. Important breakthroughs like those of AIDS, and millions others were done by epidemiologists. As an undergraduate, you will not be expected or asked to specialize, but you will be made conversant with quite a few specialization areas. You will draw from these fields during your studies and interact and work with experts in these fields once you begin your career.
