The very issue of Women empowerment arises because of the stark reality that women are still marginalised and sidelined from the mainstream as a use – and - throw commodity. The Patriarchal canopy had always denied women the warm rays of autonomy and freedom. The indeclinable gender bias has disfigured the very face of humanity. This discrimination originates well before the birth of a girl and is sustained right through her womanhood. A peep into history will provide names of stalwarts who stood for the cause of women’s emancipation. But a handful of good willed people alone would not be able to build the foundation for women’s emancipation. The women themselves have to come forward and unite in their march towards empowerment irrespective of their class, caste, creed or religion. Women Pest and Women Present: Even though the position of women in the ancient epics was put on a high pedestal to that of a mother or goddess, her condition in reality was not that satisfactory. In modem times men have substituted “a precious being” with “a precious commodity’ that is to be possessed, utilised and then disposed of. Inordinate untoward incidents do substantiate the dark reality that women are cut off form the mainstream. Earlier women’s life was confined within the four walls of her house as a ‘domestic above’ where only duty was child bearing, rearing and looking after the family. But now things are changing. Thanks to the role of media and education, women have now made foray into various fields as never before. From a farm girl working in the field to a pilot sealing the vast horizons, woman has managed to carve out a niche for herself. She has done her lot proud. Now women have found a foothold in organized as well as unorganized sector, private sector as well as public sector, small scale as well as large scale industry, etc. What women need is social, Political, Economic, Cultural, Intellectual, educational, Psychological and physical empowerment in the form of recently and good health various laws have been formulated for the protection of women.
Above all, women empowerment would materialize and assume a concrete shape only if two Key solutions are put to use wholeheartedly. First of all, women should establish their own identity and respect their own individuality by believing in their capabilities and also by acknowledging the presence of her own species in relation to the society by being bold and determined. Secondly the democratic notion of gender equality should be actualized. The destruction of one, to the profit of the other would have adverse effect on the natural balance. The very issue of women’s empowerment crops up because of man’s refusal to view a woman as his other half without which his individual identify is incomplete. In the present times, there are a large number of women who have attained the pinnacle of glory in their respective fields. No wonder, we find women in every field. Women have proved to be more responsible, vibrant, dynamic, tough, and compassionate, women occupy top ranks in almost all the fields- be it sports, politics, performing arts, police, administration or communication. Margaret Alva, Mother Teresa are some shining examples. In the end, the conclusion is, the woman is synonymous with nature. Both of them sustain life. A nation’s progress and prosperity can be judged by the way it treats its women folk. More tangibly, women are considered the pioneer for man, who are responsible of whole dynamics of the society and can be the cause of the commencement of the modern and better culture. Therefore, men must rise to occasion. They most recognize and accept the fact that women are equual partners in life.
