I would like to draw your attention to the plight of Women, in India or anywhere i feel that hardly matters. Yes, what i say would be relevant in the Indian context only, because that is where i have been born and brought up, though i sometimes wish that i could breathe my last in some place of my choice. I still have my fingers crossed about that! Women here have always been taught that they were born to go away and look after her inlaws. She has to be subdued and listen to everyone and not be vocal about her likes and dislikes. She turns into a docile youngster who keeps to herself, preparing herself mentally for the slaughter! I am sure this seems a really bleak picture that i am painting but, you need to be here to understand. She then gets married to someone her parents choose and bears children, she can never say she isn't well, and has to bring up the kids into smart, young go getters, ofcourse if they are males. This same woman continues like this forgetting the education she received, the hobbies she had and even her own indivduality. There are some of them who are breaking this mould and emerging into strong, smart indivduals who know what they want, but there is a flip side too, with all this ambition comes the responsibility of still looking after her home perfectly. Men in India come home at the end of the day and put their feet up and watch a movie or the news, for a woman her job only ends once she has made the tea and snacks, and then goes on to prepare hot piping food for all at home. If a child is born she has to sacrifice her career to bring up the child, and once her child begins going to school she realises that others her age have gone on ahead, creating much room for depression. If a woman plans her child late because of her career she is questioned about it, to the extent that she is even told to go to the doctor for a check up or asked if she is on the pill. Her life is then an open book for all to read and dissect! What then is her indivduality and where does she belong? She lives for others, not once questioning the ways of the world, she goes through life sacrificing her dreams, ambitions and goals to grow old with her spouse and children, till her children fly the nest and her husband is busy making money, too old now to regain what she has lost!
