JUST CHILL.....I have also been through that phase of youth when you have your own set of lingo and you take pride in the incessant pride in the frequent use of terms that may sound extra terrestrial to anyone who has graduated that phase. But never then did I think that someday even I would grown beyond all this and will accuse the youth then of using unpleasant and unruly language. Today a middle aged woman, a mother of one and the head of a prestigeous department of an esteemed organisation, I now master a language so sophisticated and dignified that would put the rich & the royal to shame. But that definitely doesnot imply that I am not updated with the lastest lingo doing the rounds of the youth circuit today for I have a son who often puts across a word or two at me. I am often put in a silly point (punn intented) by his suden use of words that leave me speechless. Speechless not because they are bad in taste or rude but because I take time to understand if I interpreted it correct. One fine day he said he is going for party at friends house whose parents were out of town.
In the evening when I found him home I questioned him & he said no mom the part is cancelled "uski behan tapak gayi". Sorry & anxious at the same time I said"Oh I am so sorry. How did it happen, was she unwell or accident?" Disgusted he exclaimed" Mom for heaven's sake, tapak gayi means she dropped in without prior information". This was not the first and definitely not the last time something like this was happening....its a routine. But then don't I have a first hand experience at using and developing that kind of stuff in my heydays, the fire has died out but there are sprks still in the bundle of ashes. So came a day when my son made a rremark" Just chill mom" and I shot back" I am already chill, now do you want me to freeze!" That was the day not very far ago and till today I am waiting for my son to come up with something new or shall I say something Hatt ke!
