Welcome to the Quote of the Day Series. Here, every day (or as close to every day as possible) I'll bring you a specific
quote or saying to help you with your daily life, as well as attempt to explain what it means. And now that I've introduced this series, we may introduce our first ever Quote of the Day:
He Stands Best Who Kneels Best
-I found this one on a sign for a church, but it can be interpereted in many ways:
After thinking about this quote for, say, ten seconds, we discover that there are actually two different things it could mean (there could be more, but I haven't found them). The first, and mist likely the most obvious meaning of this quote, has to do with a term called "servant
leadership." Servant leadership, although not one of the qualities too often mentioned when asked to desicribe a loved one or good friend, or even a leader, is one of the most
important qualities one can have. Servant leadership means that you can't be a leader without first learning to listen and follow orders. In order to be a leader, you have to be wise. One cannot be wise without first obtaining knowledge, and one cannot obtain knowledge without first listening to the advice and instructions of others.
The second way to interperet this quote may not be as obvious, but it's just as important. Let's take a look at the quote one more time, just so you don't have to scroll up:
He Stands Best Who kneels Best
Another possible meaning of this quote deals with the trials and tribulations of life. In order to be a strong person, you have to be familiar with disappointment. Most of the greatest historical figures arose from humble and challenging conditions, and this is no coincidence. Strength is like any other qualoty in life; it is sherpened by experience. Not saying that one should go out and look to fail in life just to make oneself stronger, but I am saying that failure is a natural element of life that is impossible to escape and learning from our mistakes is much easier than sulking about them for the rest of the day.
I hope you enjoyed the first ever quote of the day and I promise there are many more to come.
