Cristobal Colon - Discovery and Conquest of America

Book Summary by: omarow

Original Authors: Stanciu Iulia Carmen; Ömer Mülazım
Cristobal Colon first presented his services to King Juan 2 of Portugal. His idea was to find a route through sea to go to
India, and, with this, he wanted to find a shorter way than the African one: navigate directly towards the west to make sure that the earth was round. King Juan 2 of Portugal turned Colon's project down. Colon decided to offer his services to the Catholic Kings. The Catholic Kings accepted Colon's project. In Santa Fe Agreement, there were three conditions : Colon takes 10% of the gold, silver and the riches of the Indians. - Colon would be the supreme admiral of the maritime expedition. - Colon would be the viceroy of all the places discovered or colonized. Colon was a bit mad, for example, he attributed the success of this voyage to the fulfillment of the prophecies of Isaias rather than to his mathematical knowledge. He used to believe that he had an apocalyptic vision of the times and he was certain that it was the instrument of the Holy Spirit.
