Quote of the Day-August 28th, 2006

Book Summary by: Teal Gil

Original Author: The Dispicable Myself
Hello, and a lovely August 28th to you! Welcome back to the quote of the day series, where daily we evaluate a quote and
attempt to derive a glimmer of wisdom or two from it. Today's quote, like so many others out there, relates to modern society in a very close-knit way. And now for our quote itself:
In the business world, the rearview mirror is always clearer than the windsheild.
- Warren Buffet
This quote has a very important meaning to it, and it has to do with the dangers of over- competition. Believe it or not, it is quite possible, in fact extremely easy, to take competition too far and to drive oneself too hard until one's resources become exhausted. Today's quote, however, has a slightly deeper meaning than that simple defition, and in the next paragraph I will do my best to explain it to you:
When people compete, they always watch each other very closely to see who's about to beat them to whatever they're competing for. Those in front often tend to constantly look over their shoulders in order to make sure that no one's sneaking up on them. Unfortunately, in the process of lookingover one's shoulder to observe the location of one's adversaries, it is very easy to lose sight of the road ahead of you. And in life, it's better to be on the road period than to be lost because you were too busy looking back to make sure no one caught up to you. It is important in life to realize that while competition may be an element of human nature, it does not have the right to consume the human mind and drive our ambitions. While it is true that competion can be a positive motivator, it is also true that taking that competion too far can easily result in crashing and burning. In short, competition can be healthy, but remember that it is not such a serious element in life to be considered getting lost or thrown off track over. Remember: you own the competition, the competition does not own you.
Well, I'm afraid that's all I have to say about this quote, but tomorrow thery'll be a fresh quote just waiting to be dissected, and if I were you I wouldn't miss it for the world.
