Diabetes- An Epidemic!
An Alarming survey in the city of
New York gave a very alarming
indication of the unchecked rise of diabetes in the city and across the globe.
According to a survey, an
estimated 100,000 citizens alone from New Yorkers are affected by diabetes, and
this figure is steadily rising day by day. Every month statistics report
this disease taking the form of an epidemic. Diabetes has become the major
disease in the city that is growing, both in the number of new cases and the
number of people it kills. People are not yet serious about this disease which
can completely hamper there life in all respects and continue to regard
diabetes commonly as "Sweet Blood". The under prospects are quite
frightening, and the prevention efforts are less.
The most common explanation of
this illness is the surplus sugar which is build up in the blood due to
malfunctioning of the body mechanism. This excess amount of sugar is
caused by the pancreatic cell's inability to produce enough insulin in the
quantities needed by the body to maintain a normal blood glucose level.
Without a sufficient level of insulin, the blood glucose rises to levels which
can cause some of the common symptoms of hyperglycemia.
Every modern city with people
adhering to latest life style has been by and largely harboring factors for a
continued epidemic risk of diseases like diabetes. The large figures of obese
citizens, students, children who are unknowingly following improper a food supply spiked with sugars and fats, and
a culture that promotes overeating and discourages exercise are obviously at
higher risks of being diabetic.
The pre-dominant form of diabetes, Type-2 Diabetes, was
literally unheard of around 2 decades ago. But this form of the illness usually
lowers the average life, has the ability to cause major heart attacks, and
other complications. In type 2 diabetes, the pancreas produces insufficient
insulin or the body does not process insulin properly, allowing sugar to build
up in the bloodstream. While the other one, Type-1 Diabetes, is caused due to
an autoimmune disorder or more commonly a genetic disorder. This is when the
body's immune system behaves inappropriately and starts seeing one of its own
tissues as foreign.
Diabetes has no
cure. The advancement of diabetes is slow and often incurable, and has the
capability of attacking every major organ in the patient's body. Did you know
that diabetes is the principal reason that adults suffering from diabetes go
blind as they age?
Therefore, the earlier this disease is diagnosed, the sooner
one can begin to manage the sickness and lower the risk of further
