Hello and welcome back to the inspirational and reasonably philosophical quote of the day series. Today's quote has everything
to do with taking risks, and why it's not always a bad thing to do. And now, ladies and gentlemen, for the quote:
Where there is no peril in the fight there is no glory in the triumph.
- Pierre Corneille (1606-1684)
This quote, for those of us who take risks often, is perfectly understandable. The more
cautious of us, however, might take a look at this quote and tentatively disagree. Now let me attempt to explain this quote as clearly as I can:
This quote is trying to say that while being cautious may at least ensure temporary safety from the elements that may threaten one's life, the only way to gain anything in life is to take a chance once in a while. The only way to gan respect from those around you, and more importantly yourself, is to take a
neccessary risk or two once in a while. Caution is, of course neccessary occassionally in order to ensure that whatever you're doing isn't so completely unsafe as to provoke such words as suicide and insanity, but, when you think about it, the only real times when caution is neccessary is when you'r ein the process of taking a risk. So, philosophically speaking, those in life that are overly cautious wouldn't even exist if it weren't for those who take risks in life.
In fact, caution when taking a risk isn't even caution, it's prudence. Prudence is the term most commonly used when describing some of the world's wisest and most successful people, and that's no coincidence at all. Caution is basically the word to describe when prudence is taken to the extereme. Danger is usually very obvious, but what's not so obvious is the reward to be had from taking a risk. Exercise prudence in the risks you take, but make sure to take at least a few of them if you wish to gain anything from your life.
Well, another quote has passed us by. I hope you've learned some kind of lesson; I know I have. that being said, I'll see you tomorrow.
