Welcome back to the quote of the day series. Today's quote has a very
important meaning for those who don't believe in the
classic, actions speak louder than words . And now, so as not to keep you in the dark, the quote:
I have always thought the actions of men the best interpereters of their thoughts.
- John Locke (1632-1704)
First of all, let me say a word or two about Mr. John Locke. As I'm sure many of you know, Mr. Locke was one of England's leading philosophical thinkers during his time, although many of the religious conservative types of the time staunchly opposed him. And now onto the meaning of the quote:
In my opinion the quote isn't very difficult to interperet, but it means something along the lines of it's what you do that matters, not what you think. One's own thoughts and opinions are just that, one's own. However, one's actions are able to be viewed by all and and of course, since all can see them, and since no two people think alike, any action can be interpereted in so many different ways.
However, there is one general truth about the way people interperet one's actions-almost everyon'es opinions will almost always be pretty close to the same. This is because people talk.
You wouldn't be wrong to say that all of this seems very complicated so far. So, what's the best way to avoid this whole mess? Simple-your actions reflect your personality and others' opinions of you, so all you have to do is make those actions kind and
compassionate ones and you're sure to find yourself surrounded by friends. Of course, there will always be those who disagree with your actions, but there's nothing you can really do about them. In short, all you can do is judge your actions, and forget about those of others, unless they really are
important.
This quote is very important and I hope those of you today who read this will try to leave with a more open mind as well as a compassionate heart. Also, if there's anyone you think might need some advice, tell them they're perfectly welcome to read the archives of quotes. And finally, if there's anyone who might need advice with a problem, feel free to post it as a comment and if I come across it I might just adress it in a quote, or even directly. Well, I hope to see you all tomorrow. Goodbye.
