Everybody wants to see the whole world in their lifetime. I like visiting every place my parents go. Even if it is in the
city I live in. Going out so much, I have finally come to the conclusion that everyone I know and everywhere I have gone, all hold a special place in my heart. However, there is one place I visited where I never wish to go back to.A few years ago, I got up early in the morning and was about to go for a walk. But when I left my room, a lot of people were there and I couldn't recognise any one. Everyone around me was silent. I called out to the people around me, but no one paid attention. I started climbing the stairs to my parent's room and heard strange voices. Following the sounds I reached the door, hoping that nothing terrible had happened. With shivering hands I opened the door and saw that a lot of people were crying, but I still couldn't understand what was wrong. Why was everyone dressed in white clothes? My entire family was gathered around my
grandmother, who was lying on the bed. Then, my father and uncles came into the room and carried her away. I called to my grandmother, wanting to know where she was going, but she didn't say anything. I called to her again, louder this time, and still got no reply. There was silence all around. My father came to me and in a sad voice said, "Beta, your grandmother has gone to sleep forever."His statement had no impact on me and I continued to look around, searching for my grandmother. I felt that something strange was happening and was determined to find her. Later, they took her to the
graveyard and buried her in.In the graveyard, I felt as if someone was calling out to me. The bats started to circle around me, a vulture flew by, and the owls began staring at me. The moon shone bright and the wildlife started to come out. My heart was in my throat; I was sweating and was confused, not knowing what to do. I did not wish to leave the grave they had made, but had to, in order to call my parents to save her. While running for help, my sandals fell off, but I didn't care, and ran barefoot. When I finally reached where my mother was, crying, she held me in her arms and explained to me that I was never going to see my grandmother again. It felt like the end of the world. Then, for some reason, my mother started shaking me, forcefully. I opened my eyes and saw my grandma. She wiped the sweat off my face and then I gave her a tight hug. Thank God it was a dream. It prepared me a bit for the real ordeal, when my grandmother died a few days later. The thing I had feared the most had first come as a dream to me and then it had actually happened. Whenever I pass the graveyard I remember my lovely old granny, sleeping in her grave. May her soul rest in peace.I now realise that no one can escape death. One day we all have to die. Nothing can last forever. We come to this world to leave it one day. Life and death are part of a game, controlled by God. With a blink of an eye our life will end. Any breath could be our last breath.
