Book Summary by: Anonymous

Original Author: The Bible

TheBook of Psalms in the Old Testatment of the Bible is a compilation of songs written by David, King of Israel.David
was heir to the throne of Israelafter Saul. King Saul pursued David to kill him because
of his jealousy of him thoughout out David's rise to power, as chosen by God. Therefore the Psalms or songs
of David are borne of frustration caused by enemies fought throughout his life. Goliath was the first enemy David
confronted and killed, followed by Bathsheba's husband whom he killed by placing in the battlefield so that he might marry her himself. Ultimately their child diedas a baby, also revealing new emotion of grief, hardship and regret. He victoriously fought many battles on the behalf of Israel for Saul...butdespite God's favor..Saul fought David as successor to the throne.
David praises God for his mercy, love and truth.Prayers of deep need are expressed for God's love, guidance and protection.A trust and acceptance of God's soveriegnity in all matters pertaining to life and righteousness, death andprovidence are fully expressedin such as way as to bealive for us today as counsel to mankind in hours of need andin recognition of God's richest blessings.
The stories outlines above aboutDavid's life are not outlined specifically in the Book of Psalms...they are found
in other books. The outpouring of David's heart as reflected in his songs..all 150 of them, isa reflection of
the heart of God. God's people today may find comfort in the great poetry in song found in thisanthology of God's word inmusic.
