Belief A 17th century French philosopher came up with an explanation for most of the basic evolution of any notion towards its practical existence: “I think therefore I am.” Or in other words we can say, we see what we want to see, we hear what we want to hear. That is I think I’m angry, therefore I am angry. Facts like these carry lot of depth in it when they are born. In their infancy, its probabilities contain complete synonymy. But over time and its usage it gets derived into a different sense which holds very minute iota of its authenticity. And its real essence is lost in the descending generation.Talking of religious beliefs, in today’s times it’s a very sensitive issue all over the world. And the group of those fanatic tyrants, who hold the reins of our society’s well being use the misunderstood religious beliefs of a community under a camouflage as a weapon to deliver an individual’s share of salvation. But a simple fact that even a illiterate boor can relate to; is his religious beliefs have been molded in the way it is, due to the communal environment he/she is born in, which in fact none of us can choose. One’s religious belief is tuned in the way it is, because of the respective community he/she has grown up in.An observation that has given me a notion is this that, the medium of a person’s thoughts form due to his first introduction to a certain medium of language used for communication. Then the second is the medium of the education he/she is been put into. For example, a student of hindi medium will always generate his thoughts in hindi while approaching any of the activities he indulges in through out the day as well as his whole life. Even if a person’s roots are French, but if he is born is some other country or any other environment, definitely he’ll think in that environments medium. That’s why I reckon Reni Descartes’ theory fits quite aptly for all of our activities.
People in power use issues which has varying communal perspective, to achieve their personal selfish interests, with hypocrisy being their perfect alibi. In our country, one of the issues which has been used previously and still remains an effective arrow is their sheath is “cow slaughter.” In our country a cow has been rendered as a holy animal and has been worshipped over the ages. Because of it’s certain virtues a cow also has a synonym of “mother.” Yet on the other hand, fanatics make sure that the hypocrisy behind their ulterior motive is being ignored by a common believer. Hypocrisy being the fact that is; your mother is mother to you only in your home and beyond home she ceases to be your mother. Now that’s perfect betrayal. A community appears to be an extreme as compared to being human, likewise a belief is an extreme as compared to friendship. Is it so hard to understand that when we are in a relationship we put in all of our best efforts to sustain the bond. We try not to do anything which can hurt our counterpart . Even as small as a reason as to wearing a certain hued attire which can which not to one’s spouses liking. Its quite easy to pin point right from wrong when we are handling two extremes, but when the line between right and wrong is of hair’s lines magnitude. Therefore I guess Mr. Reni Descartes was more than right when he came up with the explanation, we sure do see what we want to see, we sure do think what we want to think. Isn’t it?
