Single has always had somewhat of an appeal. It seems glamorous, sexy and carefree but those of us who have been there and
bought the tee-shirt know it to be something else entirely. For example, what is glamorous and carefree about watching television every night on your own and eating pizza and chocolate in your pajamas? When you begin to dread your one night out a week with your friends because you will miss something important on the box- this is a sorry state of affairs but is sadly a reality for many of us.So why are single people single?- I hear you ask! A common perception is that single people choose to be on their own and in some cases that is true but in many it is simply because they are unable to find a suitable partner. Some people search and search for years and never manage to find that special person to light up their life.My friend (Let's call her "Friend K") comes from a Hindu family and in their culture the
parents introduce them to appropriate single people who they think might be a good match. The couple then get to know each other and then decide whether they like each other. If they do, they get engaged and get married.Now doesn't this sound like a sensible way of doing things? I wish my parents would find me a nice young man to marry. However, having said that- if it were left to my parents to find me someone then I would dread to think who I would end up with!
This way of finding a partner is certainly more simple and clinical. However, I feel there is something to be said for meeting someone amazing and falling head over heels in love so desperately that you can barely breath and this is what I long for. People I know and people around me may have partners now but they are just
ordinary, run of the mill people- the occasional one might have a bad relationship and they are unhappy, another might be bored but all of them lack a certain sparkle. When I fall in love it won't be with some ordinary, every day Joe- I will fall in love with someone magical who makes me float on air! I will have poetry, love, romance and everything I have dreamed of- I just wish I could find it!
