third world country

Book Summary by: mozihs

Original Author: chisom
My country is regarded as a third world country or underdeveloped country or as most of our leaders will prefer to be called
developing country in order to give them a sense of respect which does not mean anything to the ordinary man on the street all they need is food and shelter.
My country is an enigma, we are one of the largest producers of crude oil and we don’t refine it though we have three refineries in the country, we import instead and that causes untold hardship for the masses. We have a very large amount of resources and yet we are poor. The oil deposit that have been discovered will last at least fifty years and those that have not been accessed more than hundred years, bitumen is virtually oozing from the ground there is gold deposits in the north, and we have been flaring gases fro more than two decades now.
We have tremendous human resources, a country of about 150 million people and 100 million of them have one form of education or the other, for the past 5-8 years we have been producing close to 200 thousand graduates and 1million people apply for university exams like 300-500 thousand get in. we have up to 50 higher institutions in the country and they are always packed up to the brim.
They recent increase in the prices of crude in the whole world makes us to get close to 1billion dollars every month but infrastructures have been as it is since 3 decades ago, they strange side of it is that most of our leaders their children are schooling abroad in schools in America and uk, the build houses worth upward of 20 millionUSD in several locations in the country sometimes just beside a starving family.
Security in my country is an utopian dream and justice is one of the things we hear happen in other lands the most commonest threat by our security men is I will shoot you and they will do it and get away with it of course they will plead accidental discharge for example a motorcyclist bumped on a car of a military man and the man got out and shot him through the mouth of course the military man is walking free.
The social-economic life of the country hinges on the prices of petrol but the government give legitimate reasons why they should keep hiking up the prices and these pattern follows; the increase, we strike (they don’t really care if you strike for three years their children are not in the country and they don’t buy anything with there money it is given to them) then the threathen us on our jobs that they pay us take home pay that don’t take us home and then there is a riot and then some people are killed and then everything continues and we are a developing country?
