New York: the lost city

Book Summary by: Eni Martin

Original Author: Fabiola Carvalho

Scott Fitzgerald, the famous American writer, has written one of the most beautiful text about New York. He said that
he realized that Manhattan had end when he went up on the last floor of the Empire State Building, at that time and nowadays the hisghest building of the city. I don´t know if I like a lot of these words by the fact of my interest for islands and utopias, or, because my impression is that no Manhattan haven´t finished, but the remaining portion of the planet.
In 1995, the first of the seven winters that I have been in the capital of the world, when Ruddolf Giuliani was the mayor of the city and Henry Stern, a little humpback, looked care of the Central Park, it happened a series of snow tempest. So, I decided to get out home to know what was interdicting the city, because, therefore the journalists and thepost office, nothing more worked in New York. In that day I wore my coat, came out home and I couldn´t believe what I saw: New York was deserted and covered by snow. There isn´t any car and I could walk on the middle of the streets, to pass through crossroad without preoccupation. I could lie down on the street and look at for the sky. In front of Tiffany jewelry there was a giant snowman with little eyes, a simile in its mouse and a carrot in its nose. The Central Park have become, of the night for the day, a ski resort and the Fifth Avenue its express track. Nothing appeared real. It looked like that I had taken an hallucinated drug and I delighted myself with the best trip. A white voyage; color of the peace.
One perfect day for the world has finished.
