I did not know how long I had been knocked out. When I opened my eyes I was shocked to see that I was lying half-dead in an old attic. I guess it was night as it was pitch dark all around me. I could not make sense of the things that surrounded me. When I gained consciousness, I tried to vaguely remember how I had fainted. At first, I couldn''t think clearly. Finally, I came to a conclusion, I was crossing the road and was blinded by the bright mid-day sun directly hitting my eyes and just then a speedy car hit me. Then I fainted and was somehow brought to this horrible, gloomy attic. There was a bottle of water kept by my side, I took a few gulps and felt refreshed. I rolled my eyes cautiously around me. In front of me was a dark corridor. On my right were some rooms. On the other hand was a balcony. The moon was shining brightly over the balcony. I began to reach towards the balcony when suddenly the door of a room opened with a low creak — which seemed quite loud in that deathly silence. An old man came out, tapping the cold stone floor with a wooden walking stick. He had a long white beard and was dressed in rags. He had a silver box in his hands. When we exchanged looks he slowly started coming closer towards me. I didn''t dare move. As he came near; I saw that one of his eyes was just like that of a vulture, golden-blue. My blood ran cold as I remembered that he was the old wizard of whom people said, that he killed any human being whom he caught sight of! I stood there mute, not moving at all. But then I realised that I had no time to waste. It was a matter of life after all. I quickly managed to jump out of the balcony. I flew down into the backyard as if I had magical powers and from there, I ran, and ran only towards my home, without looking back. I had read some where that the best way to avoid threat is to move on without looking back. This seemed true in my case as I was the first lucky person who was saved from being killed by that mysterious man, because I did not look back.
