Moreira Santos, Brazilian Psicopedagoga, and searching young in the field of the Special Education. In this we will see two important notes of the history of the attendance to the deficient appearances. As for the attendance destinadoaos deficient of the vision, it must be detached to osingular played role in way brilhande porValentin Haüy, that established in Paris the Institute Nationale DES Jeunes Aveugles (National Institute of the Young Blind people), in the year of 1784. At that Haüy time already it used letters in relief for the education of blind people, having deserved the approval of the Academy of Sciences of Paris. For if not characterizing simply as asylum, but including the concern with the education of the blind people (mainly the reading), the Institute despertou sufficiently positive reactions and marked its beginning with great success. In passing of the years, new schools for blind people had been opened e (this also happened in diverse other countries of the Europe), almost all they following the new model proclaimed for Haüy. The blind people had been always a favored group, in comparison with other categories of deficient, despite let us can think freqüuentemente about them as being a group of people desprivilegiado in relation to the said people normal. In Brazil, the picture is more or less the same when we think about the historical evolution of the attendance the carrying people of visual deficiency. Thus, we can observe that it has them frequently been granted right and privileges special. Although, by times, the blindness, as other capacities, was considered a curse of deuses, prophet or adivinhos. Frequently they were educated, respected e, many times, had become poets and transmitters of verbal traditions. In all way, it fits observarque, quea greater it has still left of the other categories of deficient either much more numerous, exist more social, educative and legislative services special in Brazil to the disposal of the deficient appearances of what any another group.
