The
monument of
prince Władysław Founder of the town Żory, was erected in 2004. On 24 February 1272 in Racibórz Prince Władysław, in presence of notables: Stoigniew, Wiesław, Jan – castellan of the town Bytom, Jaśko from Błotnica, Debit and Stefan, issued the
document giving knight Chwalisz
village Ściernie on pszczyńska land. Chwalisz was released from duties and compulsory loans in exchange for giving Prince Władysław knights'' village Żory. This document given to Chwalisz is the oldest one showing Prince''s efforts to raise small village to the rank of a defensive town. One of the housing estate in Żory was given a name of Prince Władysław to commemorate him.
