Romanian Business IX

Book Summary by: likelyculprit

Original Author: J. Shiffer
ii. Advantages of Location
As a future part of the European Union, borders will be
completely open for Romania
to distribute its products in 26 other nations (the
current 25 member states plus potentially Bulgaria, also in 2007). By
eliminating border stops and customs checks for these routes, Harris Rebar
could take advantage of efficient distribution.
V. Problems
There are several problems that may arise while attempting
to implant a current business into Romania. As previously mentioned, there are
many laws surrounding the obtainment of land, but renting can easily solve
this. The bigger problems concern things like rampant corruption in the
Romanian government. While it may be local custom to pay a casual bribe every
so often, it is highly forbidden by the Canadian and US Governments. Conducting
honest business is possible, but may take extra work. Also, the leu has
fluctuated greatly against both the US and Canadian dollars since Romania’s
release from communism. Therefore, cross-country transactions may result in
varied gains and losses due to exchange rates. This makes budgeting and
accounting much more difficult.
