The Tuesday
edition of The Daily Tar Heel includes many of the same things as Monday’s
edition, but also contained a special section on housing. This is a useful tool for those freshmen
thinking about their living arrangements for the following year. It provides information important to these
students in selecting a place that allows them to stay involved with the community
of this university. Also in the Tuesday
edition were more articles about the coming elections as well as an article on
tuition hikes that this university is facing.
It is good for the freshmen to be aware of these types of things to feel
like they are part of the community.
There was also a special advertisement for peer tutoring. This is a great tool for freshmen along with
any student because it can be tough adjusting to college classes and serves to
seamlessly socialize students into the college culture. Another special feature in Tuesday’s edition
is the Campus Recreation Update. It
announces certain intramurals that are available for participation. Intramurals are another great way for
freshmen to get into the culture of UNC and without this ad some may never have
been aware of this opportunity.
Wednesday’s edition reveals more of
the same with many articles on the upcoming campus elections. It also contains some of the same
advertising and peer tutoring information along with a Police Log. In the classifieds there are many ads about
student groups and organizations that anyone, including freshmen, can get
involved with. These can help students
with the socialization process.
The
biggest change in Thursday’s edition is the addition of the Diversions
section. This is a guide dedicated to
the entertainment industry, providing reviews and ratings of recent movies,
music, or anything entertainment related.
It is a great way for freshmen to find out what is popular among the
student community. Just another way in
which The Daily Tar Heel helps socialize freshmen students into the
university culture. Friday’s issue
features more of the same in terms socializing freshmen into the university as
a community. As you can see each issue
of The Daily Tar Heel has some similar aspects, but also provides new
elements in contributing to the socialization process of freshmen. Some provide more than others but if this
week is similar to others throughout the year, the paper is an incredible
source of university information that freshmen can read and become accustomed
to the processes and workings of this school
