One of the first
things you notice that points out
college kids as the primary audience are the
people and the
house itself. All the
people in the show are around
college student’s ages. Most college
students can identify somewhat with one of the
members of the group and can relate to the feelings of these people. They dress just like many college students
do, and also listen to the same types of music. Also since there are many different people in the house, a wide
variety of dress, and music styles are represented. Thus being able to appeal to a massive portion of college
students. The house itself also gives
proof to the target audience. It is
very much like a typical college dorm room, with its many types of decorations
and varied colors. It is equipped with
a computer, TV, stereo, and other basics, just like any other college
dorm. In many scenes shown, you can see
dirty dishes in the sink, and dirty laundry strewn about the rooms, which also
resembles dorm rooms at times. All
these similarities make for a show that is appealing to college students
because it is much like their life, their tastes, and their likes and
dislikes.
College students can also relate to the groups work
experience. During the show, the group
must attend work, and be able to manage the time they spend socially and the
amount of time they work. College
students also have to deal with this while also balancing in schoolwork. Also the job they have would be a great job
for many college students. They do not
have to sit at a desk all day and can actually go out on the streets to try and
promote the band. The hours they work
are also very minimal, which allows much more free time. Working at “Arista Records,” appeals to
students, because many of them love music as proven through “Napster.” This job could also give them a chance to
meet many artists who they may like or look up to. Not to mention the many record company parties and gatherings
they would be invited to, with a chance to meet even more people. This would be an ideal job for college
students and this attracts them to this show, where they get to see people like
themselves in this type of job.
