I Wonder What Freud Would Say If...

Book Summary by: JudyRamsook

Original Author: Judy Ramsook
The many sides of human nature have always fascinated me. When I was a little girl and I happened to be at a social event
or family gathering, I observed how people would react to different situations, remarks and other things.
I remember seeing some one go into a laughing fit at something I may not have found amusing, or seeing some one become instantly angry at the mere sight of some one he or she detested or even by a careless remark one has made.
And when it came to things on a more personal level, I would hear some one indicating that he or she is no longer in love with his or her former boyfriend or girlfriend, but the next person he or she happens to partner up with bears a striking resemblance to his or her ex.
Something which could speak volumes about the person whose new love is almost an exact replica of his former love. It could be sending a message that is indicative of one not having fully recovered from the ex. Hence the term, ‘rebound.’
And I have to agree with the psychological experts on this one. It is always wise to recover fully from a former relationship before being taken up in another. For if one is not over the ex, he or she can carry some of that excess emotional baggage with him or her into the new relationship, which can ultimately lead to new problems with that new person. Problems that could make both people in the relationship unhappy, especially with all the frequent arguments and so on, and all because the person’s new love in not his or her ex.
Of course there are some people who can recover faster than others and move along with his or her life almost as if the relationship with the ex never existed. Especially if it were a stressful type of relationship one is happy to be out of. Sometimes I just wonder what Sigmund Freud, ‘father of psychoanalysis’ would say if he were around today, especially if he realised that most of his theories have become realities.
