Music is one of the important
elements in our lives today, no matter traditional or contemporary
music. So, how and where did music derived from? It is from a very simple source that we can hear everyday – sound! Since ancient, people made noises to scare away the beast. Besides, sounds are used to attract attention of the opposite sex. Even now, females are much attracted to male with good voices, especially those who felt in love with singers. Sometimes, our human nature wouldn’t change though the world is
progressing. If we come to think about it, animals also use sound to interact and to attract partners for mating too.
Music is a chain of notes, compiled from many different sounds of the different components. Different components means that there is not just one type of instrument, in other words, solo but it is the combination of different type of
elements. For instant, orchestra itself comprises many instrumental families like woodwinds, keyboards, drums and others. Do you know that voices too, are instruments in music? Each one of us can never own other’s voice as we distinct from people. If everyone sounds the same, we will not be able to differentiate male from female, which is not a good thing. Other than that, if everyone speaks of the same tone, imagine how boring the world will be, singers too, will not have so many varieties, as they are subjected to the same style of songs. On the other hand, when we own different voices, then everyone is gifted to different elements of music, like rock, pop, country and classical. Another illustration for you—Imagine a Vienna Boys Choir sounds all the same, isn’t it better to have a soloist than a choir, as it saves time and effort? But the fact is that each boy has their own unique voice to sing different parts like alto, tenor and bass.
The transformation of music, from era to era is mostly due to the emotion we have. When we had explore something new, that means we have found ourselves a suitable type of music. For example, some people like classical music, in a way that their emotions are able to be expressed in a soothing way, even they had the resentment, they express it in solemn. As for rock or black metal, people with strong feelings and wish to get everything out from themselves enjoy these two elements, as they are not afraid to hide themselves from their natural emotions. Therefore, music will keep on progressing, until everyone can find their comfort zones.
From the aspect of traditional music, a part of it is due to cultural practices while the other is religious factor. In the fast-progressing pace era, people tend to forget all the rituals once their ancestors practiced before because they couldn’t fit in or feel the significance of it. Conservationist should try to keep up the steps with future so that their traditional music will not vanish due to the change of time. It would be wasted if the music of historical values left behind without appreciation anymore.
From a simple sound we make, or a simple tune we hum, it is already considered as music itself. Even if you feel like singing in the bathroom, feel free to do so and express your very own music in your fantasy because that’s your music!
