There's proof positive in this spontaneous event that all the world loves laughter -a clue that humor
trumps
language differences.
The Peace Corps stationed my son in Paraguay. During a two week visit there I met his many friends, enjoying conversation with a little help from my rusty Spanish.
One night a bunch of us
walked to the outdoor movie, shown once a week in this village - 100 miles by bus from Paraguay's capital.
After the movie, we all walked back down the hill reviewing the show as we went, I walked next to a younger Paraguay friend while slowly, in Spanish sharing a few thoughts on the matter
Simultainiously, we burst into enthusiastic accolades, each jabbering in our own language - so fast that neither of us understood a word the other said.
Suddenly, we both stopped; looked at each other, and burst out laughing.
