Archaeology- Concept & Relevance

Article Summary by: MAgrawal

Original Author: MAgrawal

Archaeology is a field that is progressing more rapidly than it has ever been. In an age where the whole world
seems engrossed in finding its earlier make-ups, the concept of archaeology has gained great relevance as a science.
While archaeology peeps into the secrets that mother earth beholds, an effort should be made to get acquainted with the past and impending efficacy of this science itself.
Through various routes we are well aware that our ancestors thrived in a society that had continuously developed and mastered the art of living. It has reflected in the history, literature, art and crafts, architecture, cultural phenomenon, religious and philosophical school of thoughts that we inherited. While knowledge of all streams of sciences to our forefathers is an established fact; the presence or usage of archaeology fails to get a mere mention here.
As we know, our planet has witnessed countless years of survival of life on its surface. There have been dinosaurs, mammoths, and hordes of civilizations of Palaeolithic and Neolithic humans. There have been rise and fall of myriad kingdoms and dynasties. Each of them prevailed in its peak leaving its mark in the form of some architectural wonder or invaluable work of wisdom that constitutes archaeological interests. While each work is a marvel in its own, none seems to be enthused from any of its precursor. This indicates our ancestors’ affinity for innovation and ingenuity. They even seem to resist history!
The fact that our predecessors did not find a place for the times of yore in their subsistence does make one think the exactitude of its need in their times. Even though this remains a dubious sphere whose dimensions may never be known to precision.
That brings us to the modern age. Here we are, supplied with every possible specifics archaeology could provide; ….. where do we stand in its implementation?
A need, therefore to introspect the prospects of applications of such a vast science calls for pressing attention.
